Wyrd is a concept in Anglo-Saxon culture meaning fate or personal destiny. The word is ancestral to Modern English word weird, whose meaning has drifted towards the use of "unexpected".

For us humans, it is often hard to explain what happens around us. In the words of Neil DeGrasse Tyson, “the Universe is under no obligation to make sense to you.” Sometimes, we just have to accept that shit gets weird.

wyrd AS AN ADJECTIVE developed in the 15th century, in the sense 'having the power to control destiny', originally in the name of the Weird Sisters, the classical Fates. The weird sisters notably appear as the Three Witches in Shakespeare's Macbeth.

Wyrd Sisters is also Terry Pratchett's sixth Discworld novel. This book was my biggest inspiration in creating this collection. the book features the 3 witches of the coven: Granny Weatherwax, very powerful and grumpy witch; Nanny Ogg, matriarch and owner of the most evil cat in the world; and Magrat Garlick, the junior witch, who firmly believes in occult jewelry, covens, and bubbling cauldrons, much to the annoyance of the other two.

This collection is a tribute to that spirit of mystery, magic, and beautifully weird fate.

why does it have to be wyrd?

who this?

My name is Eva Machajdíková. I am a graphic designer who have been (witch)crafting her whole life. In recent years, pottery has become a source of pleasure for me—my biggest hobby, which I am always trying to get better at. I do it way too much, so I decided to sell some of my pieces. They are handmade, thrown on the wheel in a small pottery studio in the center of Prague. I hand-paint them, using my illustrations, which frequently narrate some kind of a magical story.

I also collaborate with illustrator Barbora Idesová, who adorns some of my work with her wonderful art, imaginary beings, dreamy scenes, and perfect lines.
